Cree drives high-brightness LEDs into the general lighting market

More and more general lighting uses LEDs to replace traditional halogen low-voltage lighting. With the advancement of technology, the decline of cost and the promotion of environmental protection and energy conservation policies in various countries, LED has gradually entered the general lighting market. Arrow and LED supplier Cree held a marketing campaign in Shenzhen, intending to promote high-brightness LED into ordinary Lighting market
According to Peter Walker, Cree's global channel manager, Cree was founded in 1987. In 1989, it developed the world's first blue LED. In 2006, its sales reached US$423 million. Now Nasdaq has a market value of more than US$2 billion. In March of this year, Cree acquired privately-owned LED supplier Hong Kong Cotco Lighting Equipment Co., Ltd. in Huizhou through US$200 million in cash, thus entering the fast-growing Chinese solid-state lighting market.
Peter Walker said that Cree's high-brightness LED lighting efficiency has been increasing. The XLamp XR-E series reached 70-80 Lumen/W in August last year and reached 90-100 lumen/W this year. LED lighting has the advantages of high efficiency, long life (5-7 million hours), good directionality, easy to damage, instant start, no pollution (no Hg, Pb heavy metal). The brightness of LEDs is three times higher than 18 months ago, and the market price has dropped by 30%. At present, the application of high-brightness LED market is miner's lamp, traffic lighting, color lamp and large-area outdoor lighting (street light, tunnel light, parking lot light). The next step is to enter general lighting. The HB LED lighting market will detonate in 2010.
Wu Bingyan, director of lighting industry development at Arrow, said that the current global market for high-brightness LEDs (HB LEDs) is about $230 million. At present, many HB LED suppliers such as Osram, Avago, Cree, Luminar, and Nichia have provided the product. The production cost of the product has caused the high-brightness LED to provide conditions for entering the lighting market. Cree is at the leading position in high-power (1W and above) HB LED technology. He believes that using Arrow's more than 20 offices in China and nearly 400 on-site technical support can promote Cree's LED lighting in China's Changrui Electronics Sales manager Yang Zhaohui introduced Arrow's Fairchild, IR, Linear Technology, Micrel, NS, ON Semiconductor, ST and TI and other LED driver chips. The lens used with Cree (Lens) is Dialight L2, Fraen With Asia sources, microcontrollers Atmel, Freescale, NXP, Renesas and TI, downstream developers and manufacturers have a wider choice.
