Gansu Province strives to achieve household power supply before the end of November

On August 31, the villagers of the 6th village of Dona Village, Sigou Township, Dingxi City, Gansu Province, were very happy. After 68 years of living in this secluded mountain village, the whole family finally used the electric light they had dreamed of.

On the day when there was no electricity, the village of Dona was dark in the evening. The villagers lit up the kerosene lamp, which not only had poor results, but also caused eye pain, and the cost was also high.

"Point (kerosene) lamp has seven or eight kilograms of oil a month, one kilogram of kerosene three eight, each moonlight lighting has more than 30 pieces." Bao Xiaozhong said.

Soybean is the main source of income for Dona Village. The per capita annual income is only about 2,000 yuan, of which lighting is a costly one. The local power company said that after power-on, if only lighting and watching TV, a household's monthly electricity bill will not exceed 10 yuan.

Dona Village is the last village community in Dingxi City, Gansu Province. Dingxi is one of the poorest areas in China. It has the saying that “the bitterness is the best in the world”. There are seven poverty-stricken counties supported by the state. Due to the gullies in most areas of the country, the villages are often scattered, and even a single mountain has only a few households. It is very difficult to electrify. The power department spent 1 million yuan to pull the wires to the village of Dona. The electricity company calculates only 460 yuan per month for electricity, and it takes 181 years to recover the cost.

"We can not only consider this issue from an economic point of view, but also consider it from the immediate interests of the people. This is also the social responsibility of our grid companies." On August 31, at the power-on ceremony at Dona Village, the general manager of Gansu Electric Power Company Xiao Chuangying said.

Liang Xiaoguang, director of the Energy Department of the Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, said that since 1998, the state has invested more than 10 billion yuan in Gansu Province to implement rural power supply projects such as rural power grid construction and renovation, and solved the problem of electrification of nearly 2.5 million rural powerless people. The rate reached 98.03%.

Xiao Chuangying said that as of the end of August this year, there were 22,700 households in Gansu Province that did not have electricity. It is expected that all households will be electrified at the end of November this year.
