Toshiba Next Generation SD Card Will Support Mobile DRM Technology
Toshiba announced this week its new microSDHC flash memory card based on SeeQVault technology. SeeQVault is a mobile DRM standard supported by Panasonic, Samsung and Sony. The technology uses a unique identification code and public key system to provide two-way authentication and can be integrated into flash memory cards. Toshiba said: "SeeQVault technology allows consumers to access the latest digital content, and can freely enjoy cross-platform. SeeQVault flash memory card can be used to play content on smart phones, flat-panel TVs, while providing advanced security features."
The technology can be applied to flash cards that are preloaded with digital content (such as movies). Users can watch pre-installed content on any compatible device but cannot copy it. Like DRM technology and DVD and Blu-ray, movies are bundled onto physical media and cannot be copied (of course, it is not difficult for geeks).
Toshiba will release two SeeQVault microSD cards at the end of March, with capacities of 16GB and 32GB, respectively. The maximum read and write speeds of the two products reached 40MB/s and 20MB/s, respectively.
