Tencent Digital (Wen Xin) According to the Digital Trends website, most weight loss applications have a food tracking function that allows users to record the food they eat every day. According to Lose It, recording the burden of eating food every day is one of the biggest reasons why people stop using weight loss. Lose It wants to simplify the process of recording foods with the Snap It application.
Lose It's current Android and iOS apps allow users to manually record what they eat, make weight loss targets, and connect to fitness trackers to get more accurate data. Users can also take barcodes of foods purchased from stores to easily obtain nutritional information such as calories contained in servings.
Digital Trends stated that Snap It goes one step further - users only need to take pictures of food (can be photos that are ready to be posted on Instagram). The app can automatically identify the food in the picture and estimate the calories contained in the food.
Lose It said that its image recognition technology is superior to Google and technologies developed by researchers from Cornell University and the University of California, Los Angeles, “The FoodDist model developed by two university researchers, has the highest prediction accuracy before, Snap It The prediction accuracy of the model goes further."
Digital Trends stated that Snap It is still in beta. Users simply open the app and choose breakfast, lunch or dinner, then take a photo of the food and the app will analyze the photo. Users will see "food advice" and their calories. If it feels inaccurate, users can adjust the data and add serving sizes. This meal will be "recorded."
The more people who use Snap It, the more accurate their technology will be. It can recognize a variety of foods in photos.
