Some time ago, there was a buzz in the telecom industry about the three major operators being unable to let existing customers switch their mobile plans. This caused frustration among long-time users. Later, when it came to the issue of internet package upgrades, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology stepped in and had discussions with the operators. Now, things seem to be looking up for users.
The Ministry recently addressed hot topics like internet package conversion and the rollout of 5G services. On the subject of changing internet packages, they have already spoken with the three major telecom companies, urging them not to limit users' choices when it comes to tariffs. Additionally, China's 5G technology is now largely aligned with global standards, showing significant progress in the sector.

**Ministry of Industry and Information Technology addresses the "Internet package conversion" issue: No restrictions**
In response to user complaints about difficulties in switching internet packages, the Ministry also provided an official statement. They mentioned that they had held discussions with the three major operators and asked them to ensure that users are not restricted from choosing their preferred tariff plans unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties.
The Ministry has issued clear instructions to the companies. First, they are prohibited from introducing any schemes that limit the ability of existing users to choose their tariffs. Companies are required to review their current pricing models and immediately fix any restrictions on user choice. Second, they should handle customer complaints effectively, communicate proactively, and assist users in making changes to their packages. For certain packages developed in partnership with third-party internet companies that can't be changed online, manual processing will be used to facilitate the switch. Third, the companies must set a clear timeline for updating their systems related to internet packages, make this information public, and implement these changes as soon as possible for existing users.
After the meetings, the three main telecom providers confirmed that they will strictly follow the Ministry’s guidelines and address the issue of restricting old users’ choices. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and work to protect consumers’ rights effectively.
