China's Ocean Engineering Cables Needed to Counterattack

With the rapid development of China's marine industry, cables used in marine engineering as an important supporting industry will be more and more widely used, and demand will increase. This contains both wealth and challenges. On August 20th, experts at the 4th China International Marine Engineering and Technology Forum pointed out that the global energy consumption center has gradually shifted to Asia, especially the development of the resources in the South China Sea is expected to accelerate, and the offshore engineering equipment industry has broad prospects. It is estimated that by 2015 China's marine engineering equipment manufacturing industry will achieve an annual sales income of more than 200 billion yuan.

Our country has been nearly 30-40 years later than Europe and the United States in marine engineering development and equipment industry and marine engineering cables. Although China's cable for marine development is developing at a high speed, there is still a certain gap compared to foreign developed countries, which cannot be ignored.

It is understood that marine engineering cables generally include petroleum platform cables, shallow sea cables, deep-sea cables, umbilical cables, submarine oil and gas resource drilling cables, and detection cables. Because of the high salinity of seawater, corrosion of machinery and equipment will cause some natural disasters to break the cables in the geology and submarine deformation. This raises higher requirements for offshore engineering cables.

The manufacture of marine engineering cables is a technology activity with a very high scientific content. Over the years, domestic cable companies have been lacking “speech rights” such as deep-sea cable. At present, the deep-sea cable market has been monopolized by foreign companies, and “going out” is often hampered. Due to the insufficiency in technology, equipment, and design and construction capabilities, it has been difficult for China's deep-sea fiber optic cable systems to gain the recognition and trust of international operators.
