Dell and Hewlett-Packard are turning to a model that focuses on corporate business

Dell CEO Michael Dell said at a conference held by Fortune Magazine that Dell will invest 60 million U.S. dollars in venture capital services for storage service companies, and Dell is also making a transition to the enterprise market. Talking about the Chinese market, Michael Dell said that about 60% of the servers in the Chinese internet industry are Dell products.

Although most of the revenue still comes from the PC business, Dell is no longer a pure PC company. At this meeting, Michael Dell mainly talked about Dell's business servers, storage, network equipment, information security and IT services, and did not talk about PC business. He said: "In the past five years, we have begun to plan a transition to an end-to-end IT services business."

He called these new businesses "New Dell." With the development of the market to the "post-PC" era, Dell is also pioneering other businesses besides PCs. Most of Dell's current R&D budgets are for company transformation. Unlike competitor Hewlett-Packard, Dell's transformation has not been hindered by past business.

Dell and Hewlett-Packard are shifting to a business-centric paradigm, which is the same as what IBM began years ago. However, Dell is still very dependent on the PC business. Michael Dell said that Dell will continue to compete with Apple in the PC market and will develop tablets using the Windows 8 system. However, Dell's position in the PC market is declining. Currently Dell is the world's fourth-ranked PC maker, with a 10.7% share of product shipments, down from 12.1% a year ago.

Although most of Dell's revenue comes from the PC business, its profit growth comes from new businesses, especially IT services, as well as corporate and government businesses. Michael Dell said that Apple’s growth comes from sales of iPhones and iPads, and Dell’s growth comes from providing information security services for these devices and adapting these devices to corporate IT systems.

As part of the new direction, Michael Dell announced that Dell will invest 60 million U.S. dollars in venture capital services. He said: "This is a huge opportunity. For us, storage is still an important area."

Dell's share price has recently performed poorly. Michael Dell said that Dell is currently unstable, but the overall direction is correct. He also stated that Dell has made great progress in adjusting its business and product portfolio.
