Diodes Introduces Linear LED Controllers to Provide Dimmable and Adjustable Drive Current for LED Strips
Diodes introduces the AL5814, AL5817, AL5815 and AL5816 linear LED controllers to provide dimmable and adjustable drive currents for LED strips with efficiencies of over 80%. The AL58xx series offers a bill of materials (BOM) cost-effective solution for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, including billboards, instrument lighting, home interior lighting, architectural detailing, and general smart lighting.
With an input range of 4.5V to 60V, these devices require no inductance and maintain good EMI performance, making system integration simpler. In addition, external power transistors minimize internal power dissipation compared to other designs. The AL58xx series provides up to 15mA of current to an external MOSFET or bipolar transistor to drive the LED strip. The LED drive current is configured with an external resistor with 4% reference voltage accuracy and excellent temperature stability. Not only that, the AL5815 and AL5816 devices support PWM dimming, while the AL5814 and AL5817 devices support both analog and PWM dimming.
Protection features include overtemperature protection and input undervoltage lockout. The AL5814 and AL5817 devices also utilize the VFAULT pin to provide “LED open loop†protection and LED thermal reflow protection.
The AL58xx family of linear controllers provides good EMI performance, while the wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +105°C) makes them suitable for harsh environments.
The AL58xx family is currently available in SOT-25 and thermally enhanced MSOP-8EP packages.
