U.S. Issues Urgent Recall of Chinese-Made LED Bulbs

On August 2, the Xiamen Haicang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau disclosed that certain LED bulbs produced in China have been subject to a voluntary recall by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and R&D Products LLC. These specific LED bulbs are designed for use in mosquito traps and come in two models: Outxpro II and Outxpro I. Each bulb has a power output of 10 watts and features a white grid housing with dimensions of 3.1 inches high, 3.1 inches wide, and 6.1 inches deep. Inside the housing, there is a blue light to attract insects, with the main lighting component being an LED bulb. The product numbers "DYT-80" and the brand name "Kinven" are clearly marked on the packaging.

These recalled LED bulbs were exclusively sold through Amazon.com between July 2016 and August 2016, totaling approximately 3,700 units. The retail price was around $20 per unit. The reason for the recall stems from concerns over the base of the LED bulbs potentially detaching from the connector, posing a risk of electric shock. So far, R&D Products has received 18 reports of incidents where the bulbs have detached from their connectors. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage have been reported as a result of these incidents.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advises consumers to immediately cease using the recalled products, disconnect the power supply, and contact R&D Products to arrange for a free repair, including shipping and installation guidance. If professional assistance is required to remove and replace the bulbs, R&D Products will cover the associated costs.

In light of this recall, the Xiamen Haicang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau is urging related enterprises to stay informed about foreign laws, regulations, and standards. They should also implement rigorous quality control throughout the production process and conduct thorough inspections of finished products to prevent unnecessary financial losses.
