(NASDAQ: MXIM) introduced the MAX2173 digital-to-audio broadcasting (DAB) RF to bitstream tuner for automotive and other mobile DAB / FM applications. As the industry's first RF-to-bitstream DAB / FM tuner, the device integrates a wireless tuner, analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and digital filter, and is directly connected to a digital signal processor (DSP) via digital I2S output. RF to bitstream design allows system designers to use existing DSPs for baseband processing. This architecture can greatly speed up the development process and implement seamless software upgrades. The integrated design saves a lot of external components in the traditional RF tuner design, effectively reducing costs, reducing BOM, and saving space.
With the built-in ADC and digital filter, the MAX2173 reduces the output data rate, thereby reducing the signal processing load on the back-end DSP. The clear division of the front end and DSP in the radio design helps to simplify the system design and reduce the DSP processing load so that it can support other functions or future upgrades. The MAX2173's high-performance, high-flexibility RF front end supports DAB, FM, and terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) applications in the FM, VHF Band III, and L-band frequency bands.
