After investing $250 million, Intel set up a new department focused on autonomous driving technology

The new ADG will be headed by Intel veteran Doug Davis, who previously headed the company's IoT business unit.

Autopilot technology is only part of what ADG is mandated: the division will also focus on driver assistance technology to supply chips to a long list of automakers, including BMW, Daimler, Hyundai, Toyota and Tesla.

The establishment of ADG is part of Intel's larger management restructuring program, but the entire division focused on autonomous driving technology is probably the most compelling throughout the program. Intel recently announced that they will invest $250 million in autopilot technology research and development through its own investment division, Intel Capital.

According to foreign media reports, the new investment of 250 million US dollars will be mainly used for the collection of relevant data. Oil is a key factor in the current automotive industry, but in the future of automotive and autonomous driving, data is critical. Automated driving data collection methods include cameras, radar, sonar, GPS and lidar.

In addition, Intel's car has begun to test on the road, there are currently 30 test cars, and will increase to 49 in the future.
