The power of cloud computing in China has drawn the attention of the world, and local actions are accelerating.

Cloud computing is experiencing intense competition, with global tech giants actively building their own cloud ecosystems to dominate the industry. Historically, Amazon, Google, and Microsoft led the market, but China's rising influence in cloud computing has started to draw international attention. Local efforts are accelerating as the country continues to invest heavily in this fast-growing sector. With the rapid development of internet technology, cloud computing has evolved from a niche concept into a booming field. As the global race for dominance intensifies, China’s growing presence in the cloud computing space is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Major players like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have solidified their positions, while Chinese companies are making significant strides. Recent earnings reports from Microsoft and Amazon highlight the strong growth of their cloud businesses. Microsoft announced its goal to triple revenue, while Amazon’s cloud division saw a 42% year-over-year increase. These figures reflect the ongoing high-speed development in the global cloud market. Meanwhile, price wars among major cloud providers show no sign of slowing down. However, compared to the aggressive "zero-cost" cloud service bidding seen in China, the overseas market remains relatively stable. China is currently undergoing economic restructuring and technological innovation, creating a favorable environment for cloud computing. The government has been actively supporting the industry through policy initiatives. In 2015, the State Council released guidelines promoting cloud computing and the information industry. Later that year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology launched a three-year action plan aiming to grow China’s cloud industry from 150 billion yuan in 2015 to 430 billion yuan by 2019. As policies continue to support growth, various regions across China are investing in cloud infrastructure. For example, Shanxi Province is developing a cloud computing base within its transformation demonstration zone. Key projects include the creation of a provincial social service cloud platform, offering smart transportation, gas services, and city cards. To further strengthen its cloud capabilities, Shanxi will focus on building green data centers and developing specialized cloud platforms such as environmental, traffic, police, and coal clouds. These initiatives aim to support urban planning, municipal management, and emergency response systems, showcasing the expanding role of cloud computing in everyday life.
