Molex demonstrates the first interconnect solution with OIF at ECOC 2012

In the context of the European Conference on Communication (ECOC 2012), Molex, a global leader in interconnect solutions, and other members of the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF) successfully demonstrated interoperability at one of the most significant fiber optic events in Europe. The live demonstration achieved an impressive data rate of 100 Gb/s, marking a major milestone in high-speed connectivity. Held from September 17 to 19 at the RAI Convention and Exhibition Centre in Amsterdam, ECOC 2012 brought together industry professionals to explore the latest advancements in fiber optics. During the event, Molex introduced its groundbreaking zQSFP+™ connector, the first QSFP-based solution capable of exceeding 100 Gb/s. Each channel supported speeds up to 25.78 Gb/s, making it ideal for demanding applications like 100Gb/s Ethernet and InfiniBand Enhanced Data Rate (EDR). The zQSFP+ active fiber optic cable and electrical connector also offered a transmission range of up to 4 kilometers. These products were designed to support the OIF’s CEI-28G-VSR interface, ensuring compatibility with next-generation systems. Not only did they deliver superior signal integrity and excellent EMI protection, but they also consumed less power than traditional fiber solutions, making them a highly efficient choice. Scott Sommers, Product Manager at Molex Group, emphasized the importance of this achievement: “By successfully demonstrating high-speed multi-channel system interoperability, Molex and our OIF partners are well-positioned for the next generation of high-speed connectivity. This is a critical step toward meeting the growing demand for bandwidth-intensive communications and high-performance systems.” Throughout the conference, the OIF hosted multi-vendor demonstrations, including the use of Molex’s zQSFP+ active optical cables and re-timers to achieve the first 28 Gb/s interconnect in Europe. Additional live demonstrations focused on physical layer and link layer interoperability, using Molex’s zQSFP+ technology alongside other OIF partner solutions. These efforts highlighted the industry’s commitment to advancing high-speed, reliable, and scalable communication networks.
