On October 13th, during the Yunqi Conference, Alibaba Health revealed new progress in smart healthcare for the first time. The company signed agreements with three key medical institutions: the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College (referred to as the First Affiliated College of Zhejiang University), the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College (also known as the Second Affiliated University of Zhejiang University), and Shanghai Xinhua Hospital, affiliated with the School of Medicine at Shanghai Jiaotong University. These collaborations aim to advance smart medical treatment through joint efforts in artificial intelligence research, talent development, and the construction of intelligent hospitals.
It was also announced that the "Zhejiang Provincial Laboratory for Medical Artificial Intelligence," a joint initiative between Alibaba Health and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, will soon be launched in Hangzhou. On the same day, the Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Laboratory for Medical Artificial Intelligence was officially unveiled. Looking ahead, the two parties will focus on areas such as intelligent decision-making, AI-assisted diagnosis, and secure medical information systems, aiming to establish a comprehensive intelligent medical research framework.
Over the next three years, from 2018 to 2020, the lab plans to develop several key platforms, including a blockchain-based medical data platform, an AI-powered image diagnostic system, a big data-driven research platform, and a clinical decision support system. These innovations are expected to drive the application of AI and data mining technologies in healthcare across Zhejiang Province.
Previously, Alibaba Health introduced its AI medical system, "DoctorYou," which aims to act as a professional assistant to doctors, with the long-term goal of reducing their workload by half within a decade. Through these new collaborations, DoctorYou is set to become even more advanced, accelerating the practical implementation of AI in the medical field.
On the same day, Alibaba Health, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University, and the China Foundation for the Development of Medical and Health Care of Public Welfare Organizations announced a joint effort to build an open and cooperative "Intelligent Training Platform" for medical professionals. The initiative aims to bring together national medical institutions, social organizations, and enterprises to enhance medical talent development.
Currently, the three parties are working on anonymizing clinical case data to create a three-dimensional "virtual patient." This system allows for human-computer interaction, simulated treatment scenarios, online discussions, and comprehensive evaluations to improve the diagnostic and treatment skills of medical staff. It also helps accumulate and share experience in disease diagnosis and treatment.
The collaboration between Alibaba Health and Shanghai Xinhua Hospital will focus on building a hospital-based hybrid cloud platform and a cloud-connected medical platform. They will also develop an AI-based doctor training system and a medical research data platform, while enabling mobile payment solutions throughout the hospital process.
This partnership is expected to elevate pediatric clinical technology and service capabilities in northern Shanghai. By using the AI doctor training system, the shortage of primary pediatricians can be addressed more efficiently, and the lack of pediatric medical resources may be alleviated through the Cloud Pediatric Medical Association Platform.
