Vishay's new surface mount Power Metal Strip resistors save system space and increase system efficiency

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has recently introduced a new surface-mount Power Metal Strip™ current-sense resistor, the WSKW0612, designed for high-precision applications. This compact 0612 package offers a power rating of 1.0W, making it four times more powerful than standard 1206 resistors while saving valuable board space. The WSKW0612 is ideal for a wide range of applications, including mobile power management, server DC/DC converters, laptop VRMs, and battery management systems. Engineered for accuracy, the WSKW0612 utilizes a welded copper joint construction combined with a Kelvin 4-wire connection, significantly reducing thermal coefficient of resistance (TCR) to as low as 75 ppm. This advanced design minimizes resistance and improves measurement precision, especially in high-current environments. With a minimum resistance of 0.001 Ω, the resistor helps reduce power loss and enhances system efficiency. The WSKW0612 features a solid metal nickel-chromium and manganese-copper core, delivering excellent stability under pulse loads and maintaining tight tolerances. It supports resistance values from 0.001 Ω to 0.003 Ω with ±1.0% or ±5.0% tolerance, along with a thermal EMF of less than 3μV/°C. The device operates reliably across a wide temperature range, from -65°C to +170°C, ensuring performance in demanding environments. Designed for use in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics, the WSKW0612 is suitable for applications such as anti-lock braking systems, air conditioning inverters, and climate control units. It is also RoHS compliant and free from halogens, aligning with modern environmental standards.
