Infineon Technologies has introduced a new generation of Hall sensors that meet rigorous environmental standards across automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics applications. These advanced sensors not only deliver cost-effective and compact designs but also ensure high performance with precise switching points, stable operation, and low power consumption. The newly launched TLx496x family includes both latches and switches, offering a versatile solution for a wide range of applications.
The TLx496x Hall sensors are highly energy-efficient, consuming less than 1.6 mA—about 50% less power than competing products. For instance, the 5-V version consumes just 1.4 mA. Their robust electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection and accurate magnetic switching points make them ideal for systems requiring energy efficiency, reliability, and precision. Additionally, these sensors help reduce overall system costs by eliminating the need for two to four passive components from previous generations, thus saving valuable board space.
Each member of the TLx496x family is fully integrated, featuring built-in Hall elements, voltage regulators, choppers, oscillators, and output drivers. The voltage regulator powers the Hall element and active circuits, while the chopper stabilizes temperature and minimizes the impact of manufacturing variations. These variations can affect magnetic switch points, cause demagnetization in motors due to temperature changes, or alter output voltages under pressure and heat. The TLx496x series compensates for all these factors, ensuring reliable and precise switching over the entire operating temperature range and lifespan.
For automotive applications, the TLE496x-xM series is designed for 5-V systems, operating within a voltage range of 3.0 V to 5.5 V. It supports a wide temperature range of -40°C to 170°C and is ideal for use in power windows, sunroofs, trunk locks, wipers, seat belts, camshafts, shift levers, and brushless DC motors. The latched Hall sensor (TLE4963-1M/2M) is particularly well-suited for precise position detection in motor control, while the Hall switch (TLE4965-5M) is perfect for detecting switch and lever positions.
In industrial settings, the TLI496x-xM series offers similar functionality but with a slightly narrower temperature range (-40°C to 125°C) and JESD47 compliance. It's widely used in electric vehicle motors, computer fans, building automation systems, and large appliance controls. Its reliability makes it a top choice for demanding environments.
For cost-sensitive consumer electronics, the TLV496x-xTA/B series provides an affordable, contactless positioning solution. It’s commonly found in appliances like dishwashers, washing machines, air conditioners, computer fans, and security systems. Despite its cost-effective design, it maintains high accuracy with unipolar or bipolar Hall switches and latches, operating reliably between -40°C and 125°C. The sensors also feature ESD protection up to 4 kV HBM, overcurrent protection, and automatic shutdown at high temperatures.
These three series of Hall sensors are available in volume, with comprehensive R&D support including online simulation tools and detailed application manuals. Whether you're working on automotive, industrial, or consumer projects, Infineon’s TLx496x family delivers the performance, efficiency, and reliability needed for modern electronic systems.
