MIT and Shangtang Technology established AI Alliance to explore the science behind machine intelligence

On February 28, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Shang Tang Technology, an AI-focused company founded by MIT alumnus Professor Tang Xiaoou, announced the formation of a new artificial intelligence alliance. The collaboration aims to explore the fundamental science behind machine intelligence and drive innovation in various fields such as computer vision, deep learning, brain science, medical imaging, and robotics. Shang Tang Technology has been at the forefront of research in computer vision and artificial intelligence, with a strong focus on developing original technologies that push the boundaries of what machines can achieve. As the first company to join MIT’s newly launched Intelligence Quest (IQ) initiative, the partnership is expected to foster groundbreaking advancements in human and machine intelligence. The IQ project brings together MIT’s expertise in cognitive science, neuroscience, and computer science to explore how intelligence works in both humans and machines. It spans multiple disciplines, including materials design, financial modeling, and early disease detection, and is set to influence the future of AI in economic, cultural, and ethical dimensions. Professor Tang Xiaoou, who is also a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration. “As an MIT alumnus, it's a great honor to work with my alma mater to advance AI research,” he said. “This alliance will bring together top global talent to accelerate progress in AI and ensure its benefits reach society at large.” Professor Anantha Chandrakasan, President of MIT’s School of Engineering and a key leader in the IQ initiative, shared his excitement. “We are thrilled to partner with Shang Tang Technology.
