According to Li Xuewei, deputy dean of the Xinsong Robotics Central Research Institute, most surgical robots currently used in hospitals are dominated by foreign technology. However, this is about to change. The newly established center, a collaboration between China Medical University Shengjing Hospital, the Shenyang Institute of Automation under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Shenyang Xinsong Robotics Co., Ltd., is set to develop cutting-edge robotic solutions. The first product expected to reach the market is an intervention robot, marking a major breakthrough for domestic medical robotics.
Li Xuewei emphasized that the success of surgical robot development depends heavily on real-world clinical applications. His team consists of 100 researchers, and Shengjing Hospital has also brought in numerous senior physicians to ensure these robots address the actual challenges faced in medical procedures. This strong integration between hospitals and robotics companies is accelerating progress, making the "future of healthcare" more tangible than ever.
At the forum, Li demonstrated several upcoming medical robots. One of them is the smart bed and chair integrated robot, set to launch in October. It can transform from a bed to a wheelchair in seconds, allowing patients to move freely. At night, it can return the patient to bed automatically, offering greater independence to those with mobility issues and reducing the burden on caregivers.
Another key innovation is the rehabilitation robot. These devices, launching in October, are designed to help patients recover faster or delay deterioration. For children with brain developmental disorders, an EEG-based cognitive training robot offers specialized rehabilitation support.
In surgery, Xinsong Robotics is developing advanced surgical robots applicable across multiple fields, including orthopedics, neurosurgery, and minimally invasive procedures. These robots assist doctors in performing precise, micro-level surgeries with greater accuracy.
Beyond that, there are robots designed for medication dispensing and delivery. They can communicate with patients, guide them, and even help pharmacists dispense medicine accurately. Delivery robots transport medical supplies safely and efficiently, ensuring better logistics in hospitals.
Additionally, home intelligent robots like Jiale have already made their mark. This robot allows for telemedicine consultations, emergency calls, health monitoring, and even companionship for the elderly. Since its release last year, it sold over 1,000 units in just 10 minutes, showing high demand for such technology.
