Samsung executives: high barriers to the chip industry, Chinese opponents want to go beyond easy

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has reaffirmed its confidence in maintaining a technological edge over Chinese competitors in the semiconductor industry. At the company’s recent shareholders’ meeting, Kim Ki-nam, director of equipment solutions, emphasized that the technical barriers in chip manufacturing are significantly higher than in other sectors, and overcoming them requires more than just substantial financial investment. "It takes time, expertise, and continuous innovation," he said, highlighting the challenges that even well-funded companies face in this field. This statement also reflects the growing strength of domestic chip development in China, which is now increasingly challenging global players. In 2023, Kim Ki-nam’s department generated revenue of 108 trillion won (approximately $100 billion), making up 45% of Samsung's total revenue. The operating profit from this division reached 40.3 trillion won, accounting for 75% of the company’s annual operating profit. These figures underscore the critical role of the semiconductor business in Samsung’s overall performance. At the annual general meeting, shareholders approved a 50:1 stock split and elected a new board of directors, including several key executives. Notably, Lee Jae-yong, the heir to the Samsung Group, was absent from the event, continuing his low-profile public presence since being released on parole earlier this year. Meanwhile, Lee Sang-hoon, former CFO of Samsung, was appointed as the new chairman of the board, marking the first time the roles of chairman and CEO have been separated in the company’s history. Other notable appointments included Kim Hyun-suk, head of consumer electronics, and Koh Dong-jin, head of mobile services, while former co-CEOs Kwon Oh-hyun and others stepped down. Kim Ki-nam also highlighted the company’s commitment to improving governance, stating that separating the board and CEO roles will enhance accountability, strengthen board independence, and improve decision-making efficiency. During the Q&A session, investors raised concerns about competition from Chinese chipmakers, power outages at the Pyeongtaek factory, and declining market share in China. Kim Ki-nam responded by emphasizing the high technical barriers in semiconductors and expressing Samsung’s commitment to innovation. He also apologized for the recent power outage, which caused losses of about 50 billion won, and assured shareholders that the issue has been resolved. Regarding the high-end TV market, Kim Ki-nam noted that Samsung still leads in premium segments above $1,500 and plans to launch new products like 8K TVs to maintain its position. When asked about price differences between U.S. and Korean TVs, he explained that variations in product configuration, retail conditions, and after-sales service contribute to the disparity. On the topic of China, Koh Dong-jin acknowledged the drop in market share and mentioned that leadership changes and organizational streamlining were made to address the issue. While results are still pending, recent flagship models like Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S9 have helped stabilize the situation. Overall, Samsung remains focused on long-term strategies to maintain its global leadership in technology.

Stereo Amplifiers

Designed for discerning audiophiles and modern lifestyle enthusiasts, an integrated stereo amplifier seamlessly combines power amplification, pre-amplification, and signal switching into a single compact unit, delivering rich, balanced sound for music, movies, and gaming. Ideal for home entertainment systems, hi-fi setups, and minimalist living spaces, this all-in-one solution eliminates clutter while optimizing performance.

Key Features & Advantages

  1. Pure Stereo Performance
    • Delivers clean, distortion-free audio with Class AB or Class D amplification (typically 50–200W per channel into 8Ω), ensuring dynamic range and tonal accuracy for genres from classical to rock.
    • High-quality components like audiophile-grade capacitors and toroidal transformers reduce noise and enhance clarity.
  2. Versatile Connectivity
    • Analog Inputs: RCA, 3.5mm aux, and phono (for turntables), catering to vintage and modern sources.
    • Digital Inputs: Optical (TOSLINK), coaxial, or Bluetooth 5.3 (aptX HD/LDAC) for lossless streaming from smartphones, TVs, or computers.
    • Outputs: Speaker terminals (banana/plug), subwoofer pre-out, and headphone jack for flexible setups.
  3. User-Centric Design
    • Intuitive front-panel controls or remote interface for adjusting volume, input selection, and EQ (bass/treble tone controls).
    • Compact form factor (often 10–14 inches wide) fits seamlessly into bookshelves, media consoles, or desktop setups.

Why Choose a Stereo Amplifier?

  • Simplicity: No need for separate preamps or power amps—just plug in sources and speakers.
  • Cost-Effective: Combines multiple components at a lower price than buying them individually.
  • Space-Saving: Perfect for apartments, dorm rooms, or anyone prioritizing aesthetics over complexity.
An integrated stereo amplifier is more than a component—it’s the heart of a cohesive audio system, blending technical precision with everyday usability. Whether you’re rediscovering vinyl, building a compact theater, or simply enjoying your favorite playlists, it delivers timeless performance in a modern package.
